This is where you wash your baby from head to toe with damp cotton wool, then gently dry them off with a soft towel. Topping and tailing is great if you’re a bit nervous about bathing your baby, but just make sure you have everything ready before you start.

Some of the best advice for new parents is to share the work. Life with a newborn baby is very tough for both mum and dad, so it’s best for both parents to help out where they can. Right from the start of pregnancy, a pregnant partner might feel tired and nauseous and will need practical support.
